Lisa’s Story

Lisa’s love for animals began at a very young age. Growing up, her family dog, Patches, was more than just a pet—he was her comfort and constant companion, especially during difficult times. One childhood experience on her family’s small hobby farm left a lasting imprint on her heart. After trying to care for an injured chicken and protect it from the others, Lisa witnessed firsthand how vulnerable animals can be. That moment helped shape her deep compassion and lifelong dedication to animal care.

As a child, Lisa dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. While she later realized that path wasn’t the right fit for her, her passion for animals never faded—it simply found a different direction.

That direction became clear when her aunt offered her a position at a full-service pet store. There, Lisa was introduced to a wide variety of animals, including birds, fish, dogs, cats, reptiles, and small animals. It was also where she discovered her passion for grooming. When a groomer needed help, Lisa stepped in and began learning. Although her formal training was limited, her determination and natural ability pushed her forward. With support from her aunt—who helped her invest in her first grooming equipment—Lisa continued to develop her skills, becoming a largely self-taught groomer with a strong foundation and keen attention to detail.

Lisa went on to gain valuable experience in both grooming salons and a veterinary clinic. During a visit with her parents, she identified an ear infection in their dog, which led to a conversation with a local veterinary clinic. Impressed by her knowledge, the veterinarian hired her on the spot. This opportunity rooted Lisa in the Woodbury community, where she worked for two and a half years before continuing her journey.

In 1996, Lisa joined Petsmart in Fridley, Minnesota. After taking time away to care for her ill mother, she later returned and continued her career there for a total of six and a half years.

In 2003, Lisa took a leap and entered her first grooming competition in Chicago, Illinois. Using her own dog, Bailey—a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix—she competed in the Beginner Mixed Breed category. Despite facing an unexpected challenge with no electricity for her clippers, Lisa hand-scissored her dog entirely and finished ahead of time. Her skill and determination earned her first place.

In 2020, Lisa expanded her expertise through extensive continuing education. She completed certifications in Pet CPR and First Aid, scissored terriers, Bichon Frise grooming, senior pet care, and advanced handling techniques for more challenging (“naughty”) pets. She has also completed multiple advanced courses in K-9 skin and coat care, allowing her to successfully support pets dealing with skin conditions, allergies, and coat restoration.

Lisa proudly uses a professional product line developed through veterinary and cosmetic science, recognized internationally and certified for safety and effectiveness. Through ongoing education and mentorship, she maintains direct access to veterinary-backed guidance, ensuring each pet receives knowledgeable, results-driven care. She continues to further her education with the goal of becoming a Certified Pet Aesthetician.

Lisa’s passion for grooming continues to evolve. In January 2025, she welcomed Harry, a Standard Poodle, into her life. Harry serves not only as a creative outlet for showcasing advanced grooming techniques but is also being trained as her personal service dog.

​

With over three decades of experience since beginning her grooming career in 1987, Lisa has built a reputation rooted in compassion, dedication, and skill. She has cared for generations of pets and understands the deep trust owners place in her. Today, Lisa is proud to run her own business, providing gentle, personalized, and professional care to every pet she meets.
